Quick Review: Every 7 Days

Written and Directed by Philip Webb
Produced and Edited by Amy Livingstone

“Every 7 Days” is a short zombie film, with no zombies seen… Seen through the eyes of a mother and daughters strained relationship. Will they pull together and survive, or..?

Every 7 Days is a new short short film from writer/director Philip F. Webb. Set in the bolt-hole of a mother and daughter fighting to survive the Zombie Apocalypse, E7D gives the viewer a weekly glimpse into the slowly decaying existence of those “left behind.” We experience this through short, weekly video updates from the daughter (ruby Leonard) as she mourns the loss of her father, the psychological effects of the apocalypse on her mother, and ruminates on her own fate.

As the “biters” grow stronger and smarter, will they survive?

You can find out in just 8 minutes by giving the short a watch at the end of this review.

GNoH Review: Last Straw (2023)

Director: Alan Scott Neal
Written by Taylor Sardoni

Masked assailants converge on a roadside diner where a young waitress is working the night shift alone. Trapped inside with no place to go, she soon finds herself in a brutal fight for survival as she tries to make it out alive. (IMDB)

Last Straw is a decent little slasher that is worth a view for a solid performance from Belkin. Just don’t expect everything to make sense as characters make odd decisions. Just go with it and enjoy!

GNoH Review: The Vourdalak (2024)

Written by Adrien Beau, Hadrian Bouvier, and Aleksei Tolstoy
Directed by Adrien Beau

Lost in a hostile forest, the Marquis d’Urfe, a noble emissary of the King of France, finds refuge in the house of a strange family. (IMDB)

At just 90 minutes, The Vourdalak is a refreshing take on vampire legends that doesn’t outstay its welcome assuming, that is, you are willing to invite it in.

GNoH Review: Place of Bones (2023)

Written by Richard Taylor
Directed by Audrey Cummings

1876. A mother and daughter, alone on a remote ranch, fight for survival against a gang of ruthless outlaws. (IMDB)

If there is any reason for Place of Bones to fail with audiences it is likely because it is not original enough as a western and not horrific enough for a horror, so doesn’t quite deliver on either of its premises. I’d give it an extra point or two for being a Western and having a fun cast, but your mileage very well may vary!

GNoH Review: Who Saw Her Die? (1972)

Written by Francesco BarilliMassimo D’AvakAldo Lado
Directed by Aldo Lado

Between a four-year gap in the murder of a young girl, the daughter of a well-known sculptor is discovered dead, and her parents conduct an investigation, only to discover they are much out of their depth. (IMDB)

I suspect WSHD isn’t going to surprise many die-hard Giallo fans. It has all the necessary hallmarks of the genre but much of it felt familiar even for someone who doesn’t know the style well, but it is still a fun slasher and worth a watch, even if just to compare to Don’t Look Now.

GNoH Review: Schlitter: Evil in the Woods (2024)

Written by Pierre Mouchet and Nicholas Robin
Directed by Pierre Mouchet

IMDB

Overall, Schlitter – Evil in the Woods is easily worth the score it gets on IMDB, it’s lean and mean at just 70 minutes, so hard to justify NOT watching it to be honest. While it doesn’t add any major updates to the genre, it is well directed and acted and is worth it just for the basement contraption designed to illicit revenge.

GNoH Review: Hostile Dimensions (2023)

Written and Directed by Graham Hughes

Two documentary filmmakers travel through alternate dimensions to uncover the truth about a graffiti artist who has vanished. (IMDB)

Hostile Dimensions is a great found footage horror with an interesting take on the multiverse that is a lot of fun to watch. It crams a lot of ideas into 80 minutes and is easily worth the 6.5 it is currently sitting at on IMDB. Will look forward to checking out some more work from Hughes in the future.
